In the 1970s, one of the most popular TV game shows was Match Game, hosted by Gene Rayburn. The show featured six celebrity panelists who would try to match answers with contestants. As the series continued, the answers became racier and funnier, but it was the interplay between the stars that truly captivated the audience. Standouts like Richard Dawson, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Brett Somers made the show even more memorable.
Interestingly, Brett wasn't initially meant to be part of the show. At the time, she was married to actor Jack Klugman, who was starring in The Odd Couple. Brett even had a recurring role on the show as Oscar's ex-wife. However, their marriage was already experiencing trouble by the time The Odd Couple started filming. They had different backgrounds and clashed over how to raise their children.

Born Audrey Dawn Johnson in 1924 in Canada, Brett moved to New York City at the age of 18 to pursue acting. Inspired by a character in Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, she changed her name to Brett Somers. After divorcing her first husband, she married Jack Klugman in 1953 and had two sons with him.
Once Brett found success on Match Game and had her own income, she and Jack separated. Although they still appeared on The Odd Couple together, they no longer lived together. The divorce was finalized in 1977.
